Planning to buy a wooden Cutting board purchase a wooden one? Wood is a natural product. This entails a bit more maintenance. With the necessary love and attention, you can enjoy your wooden Cutting board ! Are you curious what this love and attention means? We tell you all about it at Cookinglife.

What do I need?

To your Cutting board a good start, we recommend that you use the Cutting board  before using it for the first time. With this oil you create a natural protective layer. As a result, the wooden Cutting board  absorb moisture less quickly and prevent drying out! In addition to oil, you will also need a lemon, sea salt and kitchen paper.

You get started as follows:

  • Cut a lemon in half and squeeze it over your Cutting board . Spread the lemon juice on kitchen paper and then sprinkle a cup of sea salt over the plank. Like the lemon juice, spread the sea salt all over the plank and let it soak for ten to fifteen minutes.
  • Next, rinse the Cutting board board under a lukewarm faucet. You can use a brush for this if necessary. No need to scrub! Use a tea towel to dry the wooden Cutting board immediately after rinsing.
  • Once the board is dry, you can start with the oil. Drizzle the oil a bit over the board (about 2-3 tablespoons, depending on the size). Wipe the oil over the board with some paper towels and let the oil soak in. Repeat the oiling when the board has absorbed the oil. Repeat this process until the board no longer absorbs the oil. After a few hours of rest, the board is ready to use!

Repeat this treatment once every two months.

What do I need?

Raw Cutting board Sand

Has your cutting board become 'rough'? You can easily treat this with sandpaper. Choose sandpaper with a grain of 60 to 120 and a grain of 220 for 'posts'. You also need a cloth and one of the oils from the list above.

You proceed as follows:

  1. Make sure the plank is clean and dry. Then sand the shelf with the raw sandpaper: sand with the direction of the wood grain. This way the sanding scratches are the least visible and you get the best results. After sanding with the raw paper, remove the dust with a cloth.
  2. Then you start sanding the plank again. This time with the fine sandpaper. Just like in the first step with the direction of the wood grain.
  3. After sanding, spread the board with oil. Repeat it until the plank no longer absorbs oil.
