    Achille Castiglioni

Born in Milan in the year 1918, Achille Castiglioni was an Italian industrial designer. His inspiration often came from everyday things combined with unusual materials. He often kept his designs minimal in material to create maximum effect.

In the year 1944 after he graduated, Achille Castiglioni began working with his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo as an architect and designer. One of the great masters of Italian design, Achille founded the "Associazione per il Disegno Industriale," or Association for Industrial Design, in the year 1956.

The great master of Italian design died in the year 2002. Despite his death, Achille Castiglioni's creations are still exhibited at the Triennale every year since 1947. In addition, he has been awarded the Compasso d'Oro no less than eight times. Most of Castiglioni's creations can be considered true design classics, some of which are still being produced today. A good example of this is the timeless Alessi Dry cutlery. Also, the 'Museum of Modern Arts' still exhibits some of his works in permanent collections.

All of Achille Castiglioni's activities can therefore be briefly described as a mixture of simplicity, irony and pleasure. He also showed a great interest in the way objects are used, in the potential offered by technology and in the use of new materials.
