Aldo Rossi
On May 3, 1931, architect Aldo Rossi was born. Like many other Italian architects and designers, Rossi studied at the Polytechnic of Milan. Here he received his degree in 1959. Even during his studies, in 1955, Rossi was already working as a writer for the architectural magazine Casabella Continuità. This he did until five years after his studies. In 1965, Rossi became a lecturer at the university where he himself studied.
In his younger years, Rossi already applied a clear mouldstructure, which remained a common thread throughout the rest of his career. Light and shadow were very important elements in Rossi's work. To clearly communicate his vision of architecture to the rest of the world, he wrote the book L'architettura della città in 1966 and A Scientific Autobiography in 1981.
From 1972 to 1974, Rossi taught as a visiting professor at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. He also collaborated with several major brands. For the Italian Alessi Rossi designed cafetieres, among other things.
