Frying pans come in various materials: ceramic, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, and steel. Each material requires a slightly different cleaning method.

Cleaning the frying pan Properly

To clean a frying pan thoroughly, don’t forget the exterior – the rim and bottom. After frequent use, the bottom may turn black. Usually, this can be cleaned with baking soda and a scouring sponge. Make a mixture of water and a tablespoon of baking soda, apply to the sponge. Avoid pressing too hard depending on the material, as this may damage the pan. Always proceed carefully and check if this applies to your pan type.

Cleaning a Burnt Pan

Detergent

Put the burned pan back on the stove. Fill the pan with a bottom of water and a dash of dishwashing liquid. Bring it to the kook and simmer for 10 minutes. You can loosen the caked-on residue with a wooden spoon. Pour off the water and wash the pan with a sponge.

Vinegar

With vinegar, you don't use hot water, but cold water. Add some vinegar into your pan with cold water. Let this soak for 15 minutes and dirt will loosen, after this scrub the burned residue with a dish brush.

Baking soda

Sprinkle a little baking soda on the burned-on residue and then fill the pan with warm water. Let this soak for a while and after this you can clean it very easily.

Salt

Sprinkle some salt in the pan and then fill it with warm water. Soak the pan like this for a few hours and then rinse it clean.

Note: definitely do not do this with a non-stick pan!

Cola

Pour a little coke into the still hot pan and let it soak for a few hours. The burned residue will come off by itself. Wash the pan off and done! Coke not only helps you get a clean frying pan, but you can also use it to remove rust. Multifunctional in other words!

Dishwasher tablet

Put half a dishwasher tablet in the pan and pour hot water over it. Soak the pan overnight and the next day all the residue will have come off. Wash the pan and rinse well with water.

Cleaning a Burnt Pan

With or without non-stick coating

frying pans come with or without a non-stick coating. Non-stick makes cooking easier, as food doesn’t stick and burns less quickly. This reduces the need for oil or fat. Pans without non-stick can handle high heat and sear food quickly. They must be properly oiled to prevent sticking.

With or without non-stick coating

Cleaning Non-Stick Frying Pans

A frying pan can have different non-stick coatings, such as a standard non-stick frying pan, a ceramic non-stick coating or an enameled non-stick coating. All of these coatings can be cleaned in the same way. When cleaning a non-stick frying pan, you must be careful not to damage the coating, otherwise the pan will become unusable. The best way to clean pans with a non-stick coating is just with hot water and a dish brush. Afterwards, dry them with a paper towel to remove the layer of grease, but leave the non-stick coating.

Cleaning Non-Stick Frying Pans

Cleaning frying pan without non-stick coating

Clean a frying pan without a non-stick coating with biotex, soda or vinegar, these are effective means. Let this boil in the pan with some water on low heat and the caked food scraps let go.

Cleaning a ceramic frying pan

  • Let the pan cool before you start cleaning.
  • Remove any residual oil or fat with a dry paper towel.
  • Soak the pan in warm dishwater.
  • Choose a mild dishwashing detergent.
  • Finally, wipe the pan clean, without scrubbing.
  • Never clean a ceramic pan in the dishwasher.

Cleaning a cast iron frying pan

  • Clean the pan immediately after use, the pan is still warm, which makes cleaning much easier.
  • Clean the pan with hot water and a dishwashing brush.
  • Rinse the pan well and then wipe it clean with a paper towel.
  • Apply a thin layer of oil to the inside of the cast iron pan with some paper towels.
  • Now the pan is completely ready for the next use!
  • Never soak the cast iron pan in water, as this can cause rust.
  • Do not put the pan in the dishwasher, cast iron pans are not suitable for this.
  • Never clean the cast iron pan with soap or steel wool.

  • Rinse the pan with water and clean it with a dish brush.
  • Dry the pan well after washing.
  • Condition it with a drop of oil and spread it over the pan with a paper towel.
