There are several ways to do this. Besides not being difficult, chances are you already have the products you need to descale with in your kitchen cabinets!
Lime is not harmful to your health, but it is still important to descale your kettle regularly. If there is a lot of lime in the kettle, you may find small lime particles in your cup of tea, which of course is not very tasty. Besides these particles, the heat is not conducted properly. This causes the water to boil slower. For descaling a kettle you can use different products that you may already have at home!

Fortunately, cleaning the kettle is easy and done in a few minutes. It is recommended to clean the kettle every 3 months. But this does depend on how often you use it, the material of the inside and the hardness in your water. If white deposits appear in the kettle, it's time to clean it.
Cleaning your kettle is done in a few steps:
1. Put some of the chosen cleaning agent to descale it with into the kettle.
2. Top up the kettle with water until half full.
3. Then let the water boil.
4. Pour away the water, when the lime scale is gone rinse the kettle a few times with clean water and clean it.
5. Is the limescale still not gone? Then repeat the top steps again until the limescale is gone.
If you use the kettle, there is no escaping the fact that limescale will build up in it. It is important to clean it. As mentioned before, the lime particles can end up in your cup of tea. But it also causes the heat to conduct less well. Lime scale has an insulating effect. The harder the water is, the more lime there is in the water. And if this is so, limescale will build up faster in the kettle. As a result, your water will take longer to finally boil. So by regularly descaling your kettle, you prevent these two problems.
So now it is clear why you should clean a kettle. With proper maintenance of a kettle, you will also be able to enjoy it longer. But do you want to prevent limescale particles from getting into your tea? Then you can also easily solve this with a limescale filter! A limescale filter also needs to be cleaned once in a while, but this can easily be done under the tap with a sponge. So this saves some work. Note! This doesn't mean you don't have to descale your kettle anymore.
How long a kettle lasts is of course very different. A kettle that is used a lot needs to be replaced much faster than one that is hardly ever used. When your kettle needs replacing is actually when it stops working. And that's not just when it stops working, but also when it leaks or the filter is broken. Some kettles break down after only a year or so, but others may last up to 10 years on your kitchen counter! In general, stainless steel kettles last longer than plastic ones.
