How does burning in a wok work?

  1. Before you begin to burn in your wok pan, we recommend that you clean the wok first. Wash the wok by hand with a mild detergent and warm water. Then dry the wok well with a tea towel. That way, you'll start with a clean pan!
  2. Add a small amount of neutral oil (sunflower, flaxseed, canola oil) to the wok pan and place it on a heat source that is not too hot. Note: Do not use olive oil! Wait for the oil to smoke, turn off the heat source and let the wok cool. Using a paper towel, smear the remaining oil through the wok pan. The pan will now darken a bit. Repeat this process several times until the wok gets a nice even dark brown coating.

Voilà, the wok is ready to use! The more often you prepare something in your wok, the better the pan will do its job.
