For months I have wanted to bake my own spelt bread, but I kept not getting around to it. Indeed, in my mind, baking bread myself was very complicated and also took a long time. But since spelt bread is quite expensive in stores and also not always available, I wanted a fine recipe to bake my own spelt bread. Was it really that difficult? No way! You are ready in no time and you have no idea how this bread tastes when it just comes out of the oven. Warm, fresh and crispy..... heavenly!

Preparation time

Preparation time 55 min
Total 1 hour 50 min

Ingredients

  • 425 grams of spelt flour
  • 75 grams of rye flour
  • 30 grams of sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of linseed
  • generous pinch of salt
  • 7 grams of dry yeast
  • 350ml lukewarm water

Spelt Bread

    1. Mix the yeast with the water and beat well. Then weigh the flour, add the sunflower seeds, linseed and salt and then the lukewarm water with yeast.
    2. Then beat the bread mix with a dough mixer with dough hooks for a few minutes until all flour is absorbed. Cover your hands with some spelled flour and knead the dough well with your hands. If the dough sticks too much to your fingers, add a little flour.
    3. Empty a damp tea towel over the mixing bowl and let the bread mixture rise for half an hour to 40 minutes at about 25 degrees.
    4. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Knead the dough for a while and then put it in a cake mold. Take a handful of sunflower seeds and press them in the top of the bread.
    5. Bake the bread in the oven for 45-55 minutes.
