Friday afternoon stretches out, the sun is shining and you fancy something refreshing. Precisely the moment for a Rooie Annie. This classic golf drink is no longer confined to the nineteenth hole. With cassis and bitter lemon in equal parts, a large ice block and a slow stir with the cocktail spoon, you’ve got something on the table in a few minutes that looks fantastic and tastes even better. And with the right cocktail sets you can serve it like a professional.

Want to raise the atmosphere a notch? Add a shot of gin for a fruity twist on the classic gin-and-tonic, or choose a splash of vodka if you prefer it clean and crisp. The Rooie Annie is the perfect base, whether or not you want to add alcohol.

Equipment

  • Highball glasses
  • Carafe
  • Cocktail spoon
  • Ice mold

Ingredients

  • 100 ml cassis (per person)
  • 100 ml bitter lemon (per person)
  • 1 large ice block per glass
  • Optional: 1 shot gin or vodka per glass

How to make a Rooie Annie?

    1. Make large ice blocks in the ice mold ahead of time. The bigger the block, the slower it melts and the less your drink is diluted.
    2. Place a large ice block in a generous highball glass.
    3. Want the alcoholic version? Now add a shot of gin (for a fruity botanical twist) or vodka (for a clean highball) to the glass.
    4. Fill the glass halfway with cassis.
    5. Top up the glass with bitter lemon until full.
    6. Stir the mixture gently and briefly with the cocktail spoon. Don’t stir wildly; just a few calm movements so the flavors combine without the bubbles disappearing.
    7. Serve immediately and enjoy.

The Rooie Annie is as simple as it gets, but you do need the right equipment at hand. With a roomy carafe, generous highball glasses and a cocktail spoon you serve it as it should be. No improvisation, just well organised and ready to go.

Whether you’re hosting six friends or pouring yourself a glass: with the right set the Rooie Annie always hits the mark. Choose quality that stays with you, because you really taste that in the moment. Order your cocktail set today and have it on the table this weekend.
