The Dolle Mina originally comes from the golfing world, but you really don’t need to know the greens to enjoy it. The recipe is surprisingly simple: equal parts cassis and grapefruit juice, poured over plenty of ice. The result is fresh, fruity and a little different from a standard lemonade. The grapefruit adds a light bitterness, the cassis brings gentle sweetness. Together they just work.

Want to turn it into a proper cocktail? Add a shot (30 ml) of tequila blanco before the juices. Grapefruit and tequila are a legendary combination worldwide — think Paloma. The cassis then gives the drink a lovely fruity depth. Not a fan of tequila? A sturdy white rum gives the Dolle Mina a surprising tropical twist. Equipment

  • Cocktail glass or highball glass
  • Ice cube tray
  • Cocktail spoon
  • Carafe (for multiple servings)
  • Citrus juicer

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes (plenty)
  • 100 ml grapefruit juice (preferably freshly squeezed)
  • 100 ml cassis
  • 30 ml tequila blanco or white rum (optional, for the alcoholic version)
  • Grapefruit slice or sprig of mint for garnish (optional)

How do you make a Dolle Mina?

    1. Fill your glass with a generous amount of ice cubes. Large, even cubes melt more slowly and dilute your drink less.
    2. Want to make it a cocktail? Now pour a shot (30 ml) of tequila blanco or white rum into the glass, before the juices.
    3. Fill half the glass with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.
    4. Top up the rest of the glass with cassis.
    5. Stir everything gently with a cocktail spoon so the flavors combine without the ice melting too quickly.
    6. Optionally garnish with a slice of grapefruit or a sprig of mint. Serve immediately and enjoy.

The Dolle Mina is proof that a great drink doesn’t need a complicated recipe. Two ingredients, some ice and a cocktail spoon are enough for something that looks festive and tastes even better. Making it for a whole table? Simply scale up the proportions, pour everything into a nice carafe and let everyone help themselves. That saves you a lot of work and looks well presented.

A complete cocktail set with a carafe, glasses, cocktail spoon and ice cube tray makes this recipe even easier. You have everything to hand, nothing is floating around and you can get started straight away. Quality doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does make a difference when everything simply comes together on the table.
