Why season these pots?
Seasoning the Blackwell tagine is essential to ensure that the pot does not rust and to create a natural non-stick layer.
Step-by-step seasoning of your cast iron pot:
Cleaning: Before you start, it is important to thoroughly clean your cast iron pot / bottom of this tagine with warm water and a brush. Make sure the pot is well cleaned.
Drying: After cleaning the Blackwell pot, it is crucial to let the pot dry thoroughly. This can also be done by placing the pot on the stove. You want to prevent rust from forming.
Oiling: Apply a thin layer of oil to the bottom of the tagine. The outside of the pot can also be included to achieve a nice result. Make sure to remove any excess oil with a dry cloth.
Heating: Place the Blackwell pot in the oven or on the stove and heat it at a high temperature. Let the pot sit in the oven or on the stove for a certain period of time until the oil is fully absorbed. Tip, open the window!
Cooling: Allow the Blackwell pot to cool in or outside the oven and possibly repeat the above process for an optimal non-stick layer!
By following these steps, you create a perfectly seasoned cast iron pot that you will enjoy for years to come!
