Fancy a salad that looks like it came straight from a restaurant, but is surprisingly easy to make at home? This grilled pear salad is perfect as a light lunch, side dish, or impressive appetizer. Creamy mascarpone, toasted walnuts, and sweet pear create a delicious combination—and it looks stunning on the table, too.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe pear
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • Dash of olive oil
  • Red wine (to taste)
  • Pepper
  • Lettuce mix (e.g. rocket, lamb's lettuce or baby spinach)
  • 2 generous spoons mascarpone
  • Handful of walnuts
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Balsamic (crema or vinegar)

Prepare

    The marinade & grill

    1. Mix in a bowl:

    • A dash of olive oil
    • Two teaspoons of honey
    • Red wine to taste (this soaks into the pear nicely)
    • A pinch of pepper (better too little than too much)

    2. Cut the pear in half. Leave the stem on for a nice, rustic presentation.

    3. Spread the mixture over the cut side of the pears with a spoon.

    4. Place the pears cut side up in a grill pan. Carefully pour the remaining mixture over the pears.

    5. Grill the pears for 6 to 7 minutes over medium heat (induction or gas), until nicely grilled but still a little firm.

    Arrange the plate.

    1. Divide a generous handful of lettuce mix between two plates.
    2. Place the warm pear halves in the center of the lettuce, grilled side up.
    3. Spoon a generous spoonful of mascarpone onto each pear half.
    4. Scatter the walnuts over the plate, and place one nice walnut on top of the mascarpone for extra effect.
    5. Drizzle with some balsamic vinegar to taste.
    6. Garnish with a handful of pomegranate seeds for color and freshness.
