Three toppings — that's your new pizza rule. Not because you're cutting corners, but because a focused pizza simply tastes better. Pick one rich topping, one salty, and one herby-fresh, and you've got a combination that lets the pizza stone do its thing. Bring the pizza to the table on a beautiful pizza board and serve it straight away — that's how you get the most out of every crispy slice.

3-Toppings Rule Pizza

Equipment

  • Pizza stone
  • Pizza peel or inverted baking tray
  • Mixing bowl
  • Fork
  • Tea towel
  • Kitchen paper
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 sauce of your choice (tomato sauce or crème fraîche)
  • 1 cheese of your choice (mozzarella)
  • Maximum 2 toppings, e.g. salami + red onion, courgette + bell pepper, or spinach + smoked salmon

How do you make the 3-Toppings Rule Pizza?

The rule: 1 sauce, 1 cheese, maximum 2 toppings. More and it turns soggy and slides right off.

Classic: tomato sauce, mozzarella, salami + red onion.

Vegetarian: tomato sauce, mozzarella, courgette + bell pepper.

White: crème fraîche, mozzarella, spinach + smoked salmon.

    1. Preheat the oven until the pizza stone is scorching hot.

    2. Spread the sauce in a thin, even layer over the base.

    3. Add the cheese.

    4. Add a maximum of 2 toppings, spread out evenly — not piled up.

    5. Bake for 60 to 90 seconds until the base is crispy.

The 3-toppings rule works because your flavours don't drown in a sea of toppings. Try other combinations too: gorgonzola, pear and walnut for something on the sweeter side, or burrata, prosciutto and rocket when you're serving straight from the oven. The key is always the same: rich plus salty plus fresh, and you've got a pizza to be proud of.

A good pizza stone is the difference between a limp base and a proper one. The stone draws moisture out of the dough and delivers steady, even heat — just like in a real pizza oven. Pair it with a wooden pizza board for that full pizzeria feel at the table, right in the comfort of your own home.
