When autumn arrives, there's only one thing that matters: a warm pumpkin spice latte that makes you glow from the inside. With real pumpkin puree, freshly brewed espresso and the perfect mix of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, you can make at home something a coffee shop would charge you twice as much for. Serve it in beautiful latte macchiato glasses and you'll instantly have a lovely moment at the table. This recipe makes two glasses, because a latte is meant to be shared.

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or moka pot
  • Small saucepan
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Milk frother
  • Measuring jug
  • Latte macchiato glasses

Ingredients

  • 2 espressos (about 40 ml each)
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • 3 tbsp pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 3 tbsp cane sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • 120 ml water
  • Extra cinnamon for garnish

How to make a pumpkin spice latte?

    1. Make the pumpkin spice syrup: put the pumpkin puree, cane sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, ground cloves and 120 ml water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir well until the sugar has dissolved. Let simmer gently for 3 minutes, remove from the heat and strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve. Let cool slightly.
    2. Prepare two espressos of about 40 ml each. Use an espresso machine or a moka pot for the best flavor.
    3. Add 2 tablespoons of pumpkin spice syrup to each espresso and stir well.
    4. Warm the whole milk in a small saucepan over low heat to about 65°C (149°F). Then froth the milk with a milk frother until you have a nice, airy foam layer.
    5. Pour the espresso with pumpkin spice syrup into your glasses. Then carefully pour in the warm milk so the layers remain visible. Spoon the foam on top last.
    6. Sprinkle the lattes with a pinch of cinnamon and, if you like, a little freshly grated nutmeg. Serve immediately and enjoy.

You can easily make the pumpkin syrup from this recipe in a large batch. Store it in a clean jar in the fridge and you'll have a quick pumpkin spice latte within reach every morning for a week. Also delicious over porridge or as a topping for a pancake breakfast — such a good syrup deserves more than one moment.

The layers in a latte macchiato are not only beautiful to look at, they also provide a different taste experience with each sip. Double-walled glasses keep your latte warmer longer without the outside getting hot. Smart, practical and simply a pleasure to work with. Choose glasses you'll want to reach for every day.
