Here it is: the recipe for a delicious Cubano. During the movie Chef, which was shown last Sunday on Driving North, you could enjoy a Cubano: the famous sandwich from the film. Together with Dinner and a party I developed the recipe and of course I'm going to share it with you =D

If you don't have time to make pulled pork yourself I'd look for a good ready-made pulled pork (it's sacrilege, I know. But if you can't help it because of time constraints I recommend the one from Lidl, it's very tasty). If you want to go for the easiest option: pickles instead of pickled cucumber will do. But if you make everything yourself you're going to be VERY happy, I promise 😉

Recipe

The Cubano from the movie Chef

A juicy Cubano sandwich with pulled pork, cooked ham, Swiss cheese and pickled cucumber, grilled until golden and crispy. Just like in the movie Chef!

Equipment

  • Contact grill (a double-sided grill press)

Ingredients

  • 1 burger bun
  • 2 slices cooked ham
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • butter
  • 1 heaping tbsp mustard
  • 100 g pulled pork
  • pickled cucumber

The Cubano from the movie Chef

    1. Heat the grill pan.

    2. Slice the bun open, spread a generous layer of butter and briefly grill the buttered side. Spread a generous layer of mustard, top with the slices of ham, then the pulled pork and finish with pickled cucumber and a slice of cheese.

    3. Place the other half on the bun, spread a little more butter on top and gently press the sandwich in the grill pan. It's ready when the cheese has melted and the outside is nicely browned and crispy. Enjoy!

The Cubano is a classic of Cuban-American cuisine and became world-famous thanks to the movie Chef. The secret is in spreading it well with butter and pressing it firmly in the grill pan, so the outside becomes wonderfully crispy and the cheese melts nicely inside.

Don't have a grill pan? Use a regular frying pan and press the sandwich down with a heavy pan or a plate. Serve the Cubano immediately after grilling for the very best result.
