Oiva Toikka
That Finland has many well-known designers is Oiva Toikka living proof. Toikka was born in 1931 in a small village near the town of Vyberg. Officially this belongs to Russia, but it has belonged to Finland for many years making most residents feel more connected to Finland, including Toikka. By the designer Kaj Franck Toikka was hired and so he also began working at the Arabia porcelain factory. Also, their cooperation continued at the glassware factory Iittala.
Toikka's style was known as colorful and bold. A good example of this is theiittala Birds by Toikka collection, which he created in 1973 for Iittala designed. This collection consists of several birds, all created from mouth-blown glass. In 1992, Toikka won the Kaj Franck Design Prize, named after his colleague Kaj Franck.
