Marianne Westman, born July 17, 1928 in Falun, Sweden, was a celebrated ceramic designer and artist. She is known as one of the most influential figures in the Swedish ceramic industry and was often called the "Porslinsmamma" because of her extensive and beloved work. Marianne Westman passed away on Jan. 22, 2017, but her designs remain popular and sought-after.
Education and Career
Marianne Westman studied at the Stockholm Academy of Art, where she specialized in ceramics. After graduating in 1950, she began her career at Rörstrand, one of the oldest and most prestigious porcelain factories in Sweden. Her time at Rörstrand marked the beginning of a long and successful career in ceramic design.
