Antonio Citterio was born in 1950 in Meda, Italy. This is a municipality in the north of Italy, about 30 kilometres from the Swiss border. But Milan is also nearby, and Citterio decided to study here. He studied architecture at Milan University of Applied Sciences. After graduating at the age of 22, Citterio worked his way up in the design world. He worked for Hackman, Iittala and Vitra, among others. The Finnish brand Iittala brought out the cutlery set Iittala Citterio 98, for example.
Citterio's work was very diverse. He did not only design buildings, he also designed furniture, for example. He has received many awards, including the Compasso d'Oro twice in 1987 and 1995. Some of his designs are also permanently exhibited at the MoMA in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
Since 1881, Iittala has strived to provide inspiration for a more beautiful and enjoyable life. The Iittala range consists of tableware and decoration and has a good combination of distinction and functionality.
What once began as a glass factory in the Finnish village of Iittala has developed into an internationally renowned brand that has played a decisive role in defining the Scandinavian lifestyle. The brand's philosophy is that quality never goes out of fashion.
