Aldo Rossi's fascination with the expressive power of geometric shapes has been a cornerstone of his work. Cooking pot La Cubica is an extraordinary example of this: a simple volume that creates a unique atmosphere, that of cookware. Created in 1991, the La Cubica cooking pot was only part of the collection for a few years due to the extremely complex production process. It was reissued in 2021 and continues to amaze with its innovative form, despite the passing years.
Fragrance Lamps are an efficient, decorative home scenting method. Yet, there is so much more to Lamps than to rid the air of unwanted odours and replace with a desired fragrance. They are effective at reducing some of the most common household air pollutants, including bacteria, mould spores and dust mites.
The architect Aldo Rossi was born on 3 May 1931. Like many other Italian architects and designers, Rossi studied at the Polytechnic School in Milan. He graduated in 1959. Already during his studies, in 1955, Rossi worked as a writer for the architectural magazine Casabella Continuità. He continued to do so until five years after completing his studies. In 1965, Rossi became a lecturer at the university where he had also studied.
In his younger years, Rossi already applied a clear form structure, which remained a common thread throughout his work for the rest of his career. Light and shadow were very important elements in Rossi's work. In order to clearly communicate his vision on architecture to the rest of the world, he wrote the book L'architettura della città in 1966 and A Scientific Autobiography in 1981.
From 1972 to 1974, Rossi taught as a visiting professor at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zurich. In addition, he collaborated with several major brands. Rossi designed, among other things, cafetieres for the Italian company Alessi.
Alessi is an Italian brand founded in 1921. The extensive range consists of tableware, kitchen accessories, bakeware, wine accessories and household items. Each product is special because of its own design. Each object should move people, convey emotions, evoke memories, surprise and go against the general thinking.
In recent decades, Alessi has also included many other materials in their catalog, such as wood, porcelain, glass and plastic. The products are made in such a way that there is a balance between aesthetics, functionality and quality.
